This post is my personal call to arms. I am going to be posting my weight loss / getting fit journey from here forward. I will be using this blog as not only a motivational tool for myself and others but as an accountability factor. I feel like I have been putting this off for too long and there is no better time than the present.
A great way to start this journey is to tell you about myself and my excuses that I give myself as to why I am not where I want to be.
Growing up and even through high school, I was always really thin. I now have some unwanted pounds and am overall unsatisfied with my appearance. My goal is not to just lose overall scale weight but rather body fat percentage and adding muscle. To be specific, I am 5’9 and 187 pounds and 29% body fat, 26 years old. I would like to be closer to 165-170 at about 12-15% body fat.
My challenges in life are probably a lot like the many of you that stumble upon reading this. I am married to a wonderful women and we have our first baby girl together, Ava. She is already 4 months old! Also yes, she has me wrapped around her finger and I can’t believe how lucky I am to be her father. We also help out my Parents-in-law occasionally to watch Kayla’s (My Wife’s) brother, Tyler. For those of you who don’t know, Tyler is a 25 year old awesome dude that has special needs. So on top of all that and making time for friends, family, work and fun, time for working out and keeping up with the diet has fallen by the way side. As the years have gone on, the diet and working out has always seemed to be put on the back burner. Hence, why I am in the position I am in now.
The crazy thing is that I genuinely love working out. I love a good hard run, I love blasting music and I love seeing the progression. If you think about it, working out is really one of the few things in life you can put in the work and measure that work in exact, tangible results and I think that is beautiful. You can literally watch yourself get stronger and stronger as you break personal records and push your known limits. I really do just love it! But for some reason, I let the business of life get in the way of things that I love. My hope is that combining some good ol’ “can do” attitude and this blog and maybe some people that would be willing to join me in the journey we can get back to where we want to be physically.
So if you would, join me on this journey. This is not a sprint or a challenge or a get ripped quick thing. I am talking about a lifestyle overhaul. Changing daily habits, routines and rituals. Improving the body to improve the mind. Show yourself that you can push beyond your limits in the gym so you can push beyond your limits in all aspects of life. Being a good husband or wife, a parent your kids can aspire to be, a friend that all your friends can count on. Just simply knowing what your capable of in the gym will bleed into everything you do and help you do it with confidence. Throughout this journey I will be sharing with you the raw journey. I will be sharing tips and tricks I learn along the way and what I do to overcome struggles that I come across as well.
Be sure to “follow” me so you can get updates on my journey. If you also have been looking for a time to jump in, please do. Let me know who you are and feel free to ask any questions you may have! Your not getting any younger!
Below is a picture of my body as of today 10/30/17. I clearly have a long road ahead of me to get down to where I want to be. However, you must always take something as monumental as changing your habits and lifestyle one step at a time. This is my first step towards that.
